Suppressor and silencer are used interchangeably to describe the same product. We generally refer to them as suppressors because silencer is a misnomer, they don’t silence a firearm. Instead they are meant to reduce the sound of a gunshot to near or below hearing safe levels (we still suggest the use of hearing production when shooting a suppressed firearm). Gunshots can produce sound levels as high as 160 dB, which can permanently damage a person’s hearing in a short amount of time. Both hearing protection and suppressors are important tools in maintaining a shooters long-term health.
Suppressors slightly increase muzzle velocity, drastically suppress sound, and reduce felt recoil. Overall, shooting suppressed makes for a much more pleasant experience and after shooting one many people don’t ever want to go back. They can be used for almost any application from hunting to long-range competition shooting.
