Direct-Thread

Direct-thread suppressors do exactly as you’d guess, screw directly onto the threaded muzzle of a firearm (assuming the suppressor and firearm use the same thread pattern).

Quick-Detach

Quick-detach suppressors attach to a muzzle device that threads onto the firearm’s threaded muzzle. Once the muzzle device, such as a specially designed muzzle brake, is attached to the firearm it takes only seconds to attach or remove the suppressor from the firearm. Direct-thread suppressors are ideal for a dedicated firearm setup where the suppressor won’t need to be removed, while quick-detach suppressors are ideal for applications where the firearm will be shot unsuppressed as well or the suppressor will be moved from one firearm platform to another.

Integral

Two other less common types of suppressors are integrally suppressed uppers and barrels. Integral uppers are a drop-in replacement for a standard AR-15 upper receiver and include an integrally suppressed barrel. Integrally suppressed barrel replacements are a direct replacement for a factory barrel, commonly for Ruger 10/22 Rifles, where the entire barrel is the suppressor.
